LOCAL ORGANISERS SET NEW STANDARDS
FOR THE WORLD
Tanjung Puteri, the
host of the UIM Formula 1 Powerboat World Championship Malaysian
Grand Prix on Feb 24 and 25, has set such a high standard of organisation
that it will be used as the benchmark for other venues of the
14-round UIM world championship.
Mr Nicolo di San Germano, who is the UIM
Formula 1 powerboat promoter, said he was simply astonished with
the speed and meticulous manner in which the Johor State Government
and local promoter H20 Sports invested into the organisation of
the event.
He explained that logistics management
of the Formula 1 Powerboat Complex is by far the most crucial
and the organisers have done a magnificent job in this area.
Nicolo said UIM had a list of requirements for all new hosts to
fulfil and Tanjung Puteri had not only met them but far exceeded
the requirements as well. The marquees housing the various
key facilities are already in place and they shall all be running
by tomorrow (Thursday).
For a first time organiser, I think H20 Sports and the State
Government have done a fantastic job, he added.
He said he was pleased that H20 Sports
had also taken the initiative to organise a unique street carnival
(Tanjung Puteri Fest) to spice up the event. The local organisers
have certainly added a new dimension to the sport of not just
putting up a powerboat event but providing a variety of entertainment
to the crowds.
Nicolo said this is something that other hosts should emulate
so as to give novelty to their events instead of just the usual
water splashes.
What the Tanjung Puteri people have done is a new milestone
for the sport and their tireless efforts are indeed a showcase for
the world to witness, he said.
UIM permanent commissioner Mr Arthur Mostert was also pleased
with the organisers current rate of progress, saying that
the massive white structure (Formula 1 powerboat complex) seemed
impressive.
He said water preparation like the positioning of the pontoons
and the start pontoons for the powerboats will be the final area
of assessment. But I dont foresee any problem there.
H20 Sports managing director Dato Yahya A. Jalil, said the
manpower requirement was one of the biggest challenges for the
organisation.
He said about 700 policemen have been roped in to manage the traffic
and security while 100 medical personnel will provide medical
assistance and 2,000 volunteers have been recruited to help in
the running of the event.
Dato Yahya said 70 firemen would be on
duty while 100 technical teams will take care of the technical
aspects of the race organisation.EndsReleased by Ed-Press Communications
