MM POWER TO ADD MULTI-AMERICAN CHAMP TO LINE-UP !
MIKE SEEBOLD TO JOIN U.I.M. F1 CHAMPIONSHIP FOR 2002 !
Portimao, Portugal (6th April) Multi time World Champion
and head of the MM Power Race Team from Cologne, Germany announced
today that have come to an agreement to bring many time North American
Champion Michael Seebold to their two boat team line-up for the
2002 U.I.M. F1 World Championship season.
Seebold, a native of St. Louis, Missouri in the USA, returns to
the world tour after last running in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in
1994. The 40 year-old first started racing at the age of 14 in the
Kitson craft and Sport G classes and moved up to larger classes
under the guidance of his father Bill, who had over 700 wins and
a myriad of World and American championships in his 50 plus years
of racing.
The three generation family of tunnel boat racing is the most famous
named family in the sport in world racing. Michael, who is a 7 time
National Champion and a 2 time World Champion on his own, last won
the North American Prop Tour championship a few y ears ago. Hel
also has championships in the SST-120 class in 1978 and 1979 and
was the youngest driver ever to win the Paris Six Hour race at the
age of 19 in 1979.
The last two years he raced in both North America and on the World
Tour was in 1987 and 1988. Michael finished 2nd in both series and
finished only 2nd to his father Bill in these two campaigns.
Michael is expected to bring his own new composite designed Seebold
hull by plane to Europe in the next 10 days and be ready in time
to run with the Michael Werner MM Power Team along with expected
teammate Rupp Temper from Austria for the opening round of the championship
in Portimao in Portugal on the 28th of April.
The 6-time winner of the St. Louis Grand Prix returns the great
Seebold name to the world theatre and is expected to challenge current
World Champion Guido Cappellini and Francesco Cantando of Italy
along with fellow American Scott Gillman for the 2002 world title.
Only time will tell whether the Seebold fire and determination will
change the face of the U.I.M. F1 World Championship stage for 2002.
