UIM APPEALS COURT REINSTATES CANTANDO
IN 2nd PLACE
Abu Dhabi, Thursday, May 24, 2003 - In a rare court action, Italian UIM F1 Powerboat driver Francesco
Cantando, (Team Singha F1) challenged the protest filed by driver
Saudi Arabian Laith Pharaon, (Team Green) in a UIM Appeals Court in Brussels
(Belgium).
The hearing
has taken place in front of the Brussels Appeals Court on Saturday May
24, 2003.
In the opening
round of the 2003 UIM World F1 Championship in Portimao (Portugal) officials
had disqualified Cantando after he had clinched second place.
The UIM
Appeals Court has taken the decision to reinstate Cantando in second position,
which means that Cantando keeps his 2nd place and scores fifteen
points. The UIM Appeals Court however has allocated two yellow cards in
replacement of the disqualification.
