The F1 Powerboat Gran Premio del Mediterraneo
2003 could be the last World Championship F1 Grand Prix staged
in Italy, said UIM World F1 promoter Nicolo di San Germano prior
to practice and qualifying here today. His announcement came as
a surprise to drivers, officials and the media, as they prepared
for the third round of the 2003 World Championship.
Nicolo di San Germano: "The Italian Powerboat Federation and its officials
are creating a very hostile situation which makes it impossible for me and
the local promoters to work together in a professional manner. While I am aware
that Italians are some of the most enthusiatic powerboat racing supporters
in the world, we need the full co-operation of the Federation and that is not
forthcoming.
" Many nations around the world want to host a round of the World F1 Series,
so we will have no problem filling the dates that Italy leaves vacant."
