25 DRIVERS READY TO CHALLENGE GRAND PRIX OF ITALY! LAKE
COMO COURSE SET TO BE A HANDFUL FOR DRIVERS!
COMO, Italy – 8th of June, 2005 – The
largest field of drivers in over two seasons have arrived for this
weekend’s 9th Annual Grand Prix of Italy on the scenic setting
of historic Lake Como in northern Italy.
The 2nd round of the 2005 U.I.M. F1 World Championship of power
boating is shaping up to be a crowded field of drivers all vying
for the 24 spot starting line-up on this Sunday afternoon at 15:00
local CET. New faces will be French driver Bruno Corsin driving the
Art Boat sponsored machine hoping to qualify for his first ever grand
prix event. Bruno has been a 5-time French S2000 champion as well
as a European Champion.
Also returning to the series is young Italian Ivan Brigada who has
raced twice in his career in F1 after getting a name for himself
in F2 the past few seasons. Ivan will be joining the Tamoil Team
of Como native and 8-time World Champion Guido Cappellini.
Rolf Sunde of Norway will be in the Danita number one boat that
normally has Danish driver Gert Ladefoged sets in. Gert had a crash
on his motorcyle and is not available to driver so his ace mechanic
and part time driver will once again look for championship points.
Rolf proved to be an instant success by qualifying in the top-6 shootout
twice in his 3 starts a year ago.
Defending champion of the Grand Prix of Italy Guido Cappellini returns
home to his lake where he first dreamed of racing power boats back
in the 1970’s. His main rival this weekend will be American
Scott Gillman of the Emirates Team who is sponsored by Dubai Holdings
and is 2nd in the championship with 15 points.
Drivers from 12 different countries will take to the 8 turn course
in front of downtown Como as the European round of the 2005 U.I.M.
F1 World Championship comes to an end this Sunday afternoon.
