HIGH WINDS POSTPONE GRAND PRIX OF TURKEY!
EARLY START EXPECTED FOR 22 PILOTS IN ISTANBUL!
PRESS RELEASE: Istanbul, Turkey (22nd
August)- Not since the final race of the 1996 calendar has a race
been postponed for an extra day, until today when the straits of
the Bosphorus wind driven built up 2 meter waves on the back straight
of the 6 turn 2.125 kilometer course to force the race into tomorrow
with a 9:00 am local start. (2:00 am EST)
The race event, round #7 of the U.I.M. F1
World Championship for powerboat racing, is the first international
sporting event since last Tuesday’s massive earthquake which strongly
hit the cities of the Eastern part of the Marmara region. The U.I.M.
F1 World Championship has stepped forward and has given already
over $50,000 in earthquake relief and has set up on it’s website
a donation avenue for offerings at www.f1boat.com.
All powerboat racing fans can help increase
this amount by sending their donations to the UIM who will make

Guido Cappellini, the 4-time World champion
